MailerLite vs Brevo for solo consultants

Start with the work your emails need to do. A useful comparison begins with the path from a new subscriber to a qualified conversation.
The short answer
Put MailerLite on your shortlist when the immediate job is an opt-in form, a useful newsletter and a straightforward nurture sequence. Consider Brevo when your requirements extend into a broader mix of marketing communication. These are starting hypotheses, not findings from hands-on testing.
Define one buying scenario
Imagine an independent operations consultant offering a downloadable process checklist. A visitor requests the checklist, receives it, then gets a short series explaining how to use it. A later message invites the reader to a discovery call. This is an illustrative workflow, not a case study or a promise of new clients.
Write down the required steps before comparing plans. You need the form, the delivery message, a delay, the next message and a way to remove someone who no longer wants the sequence. If bookings should stop further invitations, treat that as a separate integration requirement to verify.
What the public documentation establishes
MailerLite describes campaigns, forms, landing pages and automations in its product materials. Brevo describes email marketing and marketing automation in its Marketing Platform documentation. The existence of those features does not prove that every step of your proposed workflow is included in a particular free or entry-level plan.
Plan names, contact ceilings, sending allowances and automation limits change. Use the official pages linked below to price your own scenario. Do not use an old comparison table as a purchase quote.
Free-plan limits worth checking first
| Vendor-described limit | MailerLite | Brevo |
|---|---|---|
| Contacts | 250 subscribers | Up to 100,000 stored contacts |
| Email sends | 2,500 per month | 300 per day |
These limits are not equivalent. For an illustrative newsletter to 500 people on one day, MailerLite’s free subscriber limit and Brevo’s free daily send limit would both need attention. Compare the whole cost
Make a small worksheet with your current opted-in contacts, expected monthly sends, required automations and number of users. Include a separate column for the cost at a larger list size. Record monthly and annual billing separately, and note taxes, paid add-ons and any connector you would need.
A low headline subscription is irrelevant if it omits the workflow you need. Conversely, a broader platform can be unnecessary if you only publish a monthly newsletter. Buy the smallest plan that completes the process rather than paying for a speculative future system.
A practical evaluation exercise
- Build one form using sample data you control.
- Deliver one useful resource to a test address.
- Create a two-message follow-up and inspect its timing.
- Test unsubscribe and suppression behavior.
- Check whether a booked call can stop further invitations.
- Export the sample contacts and inspect the file.
Record what happened, which plan was required and whether a workaround was necessary. Do not judge only by how the editor looks. A reliable process you understand matters more than a long feature list.
When neither is the answer
If your main problem is remembering which proposal needs a personal reply, start by evaluating a sales pipeline and reminders. A newsletter platform will not automatically solve that organizational problem. Keep promotional nurturing separate from the individual conversation with a prospective client.
Our recommendation
For a first opt-in newsletter and a short nurture sequence, evaluate MailerLite first, then use Brevo as the comparison if you need a wider communication setup. Change that order if your written requirements favor Brevo. There is no measured performance winner here: neither product has been tested by this publication.
